MASSEY’s “Comeback Morning” Is a Soulful Revival

MASSEY has real skill for fusing groove with storytelling, but his most recent single “Comeback Morning” feels like a turning point.

Where earlier tracks like “Tattoo My Heart” leaned into the mysterious allure of New Orleans’s darker corners, and “3AM FUNK” strutted with unabashed retro cool, “Comeback Morning” channels something more personal and life affirming. It’s less about atmosphere and attitude, and more the song of someone who has been through the night and emerged ready to fight again.

The single bursts open with a soulful intensity, a gospel tinged reminder that every sunrise carries the possibility of redemption.

Built on a bedrock of Charlie Wooton’s powerhouse bass and Doug Belote’s rock solid drumming, “Comeback Morning” leans into a thick and swampy groove, given extra heat by the dual guitars of Peter Oravetz and Daniel Groover.

Michael Lemmler’s Hammond organ adds warmth and depth, while the 504 Horns inject a brassy punch. And threading it all together is MASSEY himself, delivering each phrase with conviction, every note echoing his father’s wisdom that “The comeback is always sweeter.”

But it’s this track that reframes MASSEY’s earlier single releases. Where “Tattoo My Heart” explored love and loss through the lens of voodoo mystique, and “3AM FUNK” celebrated groove for groove’s sake, then “Comeback Morning” is the anchor that ties it all together.

It shows MASSEY not just as a stylist or moddmaker, but as a storyteller who can turn personal truths into collective experience.

For a project still in its early stages, MASSEY has already carved out a distinctive space. A hybrid of funk, rock and soul that feels steeped in tradition yet unafraid to push forwards.

About MASSEY

MASSEY isn’t your typical frontman. He doesn’t play traditional instruments. Instead, he vocalizes every part of a song, whistling basslines, scatting horn lines and humming guitar riffs. And then brings those ideas to life with a team of collaborators.

Longtime guitarist and co writer Peter Oravetz has been a key partner in transforming MASSEY’s sketches into full bodied tracks that blend funk, soul, rock and storytelling.

Born from a creative spark captured by producer JoeBaby Michaels, MASSEY has already amassed almost 1 million combined views on his first music video releases!

His upcoming single “Bookin'” is out September 12th. With a mix of flair, groove heavy energy and heartfelt storytelling, MASSEY is quickly establishing himself as a voice for connection and musical adventure.
