Every so often, a song doesn’t just describe a season—it embodies it. Garrett Anthony Rice’s “When Leaves Keep Falling” captures autumn not as a backdrop but as a living, breathing sensation. There’s a quiet ache woven through its melody, tempered by a thread of hope that keeps it from sinking into melancholy.
Rice keeps the structure open and unhurried, letting the song drift naturally, weaving through layers of sound like leaves carried on a breeze. During the bridge, a gospel choir lifts the track into something euphoric, echoing the electrifying spirit of T. Rex’s “20th Century Boy,” before dissolving into a closing section reminiscent of Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Going On.” The result is both intimate and expansive—like watching fog lift to reveal something luminous and deeply human.
Through a sound that defies simple categorization, “When Leaves Keep Falling” asks for honesty—toward oneself and others. It captures autumn’s essence not as an ending, but as a period of transition and quiet rebirth. In Rice’s hands, the season becomes less about decay and more about becoming.
The single is part of Equinox, Rice’s forthcoming double album and one of his most emotionally resonant projects to date. Where earlier releases such as “Eden,” “In the Sun,” “I Found Myself Today,” and “It’s Not the Summer” explored sonic versatility, this track focuses on stillness, reflection, and growth—the calm before transformation.
Hailing from County Dublin, Ireland, and now based in Greystones, County Wicklow, Rice has spent two decades refining his sound. With Equinox, he’s set to make a defining mark on the 2025 music landscape. The album, a rare 18-track double LP from a debut solo artist’s second release, follows his 2023 debut under the alias (i) CONSULT, Reflections Part II: The Very Best Of…, which reached listeners in 93 countries and caught the attention of UK producer Chris Potter (The Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, U2, The Verve/Richard Ashcroft).
