Los Angeles-based multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and producer Robbie Gennet premieres “Tiger Eyes,” a jaunty, keyboard-driven new single that brings a nostalgic indie sensibility to his expansive musical world. The track arrives today, September 25, ahead of the October 1 release of Gennet’s forthcoming album, The Painted Bird.

With its bright keyboard work, melodic bounce and distinctly vintage atmosphere, “Tiger Eyes” finds Gennet embracing a lighter, more playful side of his songwriting. The song carries the loose charm of classic indie pop and piano-driven rock while retaining the detailed musicianship and layered production that runs throughout his work.

“Tiger Eyes” follows the recent release of The Giver and the Thief, the second installment in Gennet’s ambitious five-album orchestrated rock cycle. Rather than serving as a direct extension of that record’s sound, the new single offers another glimpse into the breadth of the larger project and the contrasting musical worlds Gennet explores from album to album.

The Painted Bird, due October 1, is the third album in Gennet’s five-record cycle, following Phase and The Giver and the Thief. The project has been eight years in development, with Gennet writing, arranging, performing and producing the material himself. The series will continue with Divides and Flood the Zone, completing the five-album sequence through December.

Gennet’s approach to the project reflects his unusually broad musical background. An award-winning piano and keyboard player, he is also a bassist, guitarist, drummer, arranger, vocalist and producer whose work has included performances and recordings with Lisa Marie Presley, Nick Lachey, Fuel and Everclear, as well as musicians connected to Pearl Jam, The Doors, Dave Matthews Band, Little Feat and MC5.

His keyboard background is particularly central to the music. Gennet has spent years immersed in vintage keyboards, piano-driven songwriting and the sounds of classic rock, funk, blues, boogie and pop, while his work as an educator and writer has given him an equally deep interest in the mechanics and history of recorded music.

That combination comes through in “Tiger Eyes,” where the keyboards provide much of the song’s personality. The track feels deliberately familiar without sounding retro for its own sake, pairing its nostalgic musical language with Gennet’s contemporary independent approach.

The single also arrives as Gennet continues an unusually ambitious release schedule. In 2025, he released ten self-produced full-length albums in ten months. His current five-album cycle expands that idea into a larger interconnected project involving music, visual work, film, live performances and The Red Sphere, an illustrated lyric book published by Innovative Ink Publishing and illustrated by Skot Olson.

Most recently, Gennet released The Giver and the Thief, which moves through acoustic piano rock, chamber pop, funk, blues, boogie and orchestral arrangements. The album also features “Insomnia,” accompanied by a video directed by Andrew Aidman.

Now, with “Tiger Eyes,” Gennet turns the focus toward The Painted Bird and another facet of the larger musical story he has been building throughout 2026.
