“Closer” Sees A Is for Atom Lean Into Connection in a Fractured World

Imagine if intimacy had its own soundtrack. Imagine if choosing connection in a world that feels fractured, loud and unstable could sound like a song not a manifesto. Imagine if that song didn’t just talk about togetherness but made it feel radical, urgent and absolutely necessary. Well it does, and the artist doing it right now is Mike Cykoski, under his project A Is for Atom.

His latest single, “Closer,” is proof that holding on can be an act of rebellion. The track opens with a subtle, restless pulse that might feel familiar at first, but it quickly draws you in with its layering shimmering guitars and electronic textures over a rhythm that’s both steady and alive.

The lyrics are intimate, the kind of storytelling that pulls you into someone else’s private world without ever feeling voyeuristic. Imperfect lovers, nervous and restless, lean into each other against the noise of the city aware that words can wound and distance can grow. And still, they move closer.

About the song, Cykoski says:

“Closer” is a song about choosing connection when everything else feels loud, unstable, and fractured. Set against a restless city and a backdrop of empty posturing and institutional noise, the song leans into intimacy as a form of resistance. The narrator and their partner are imperfect—wild, nervous, restless—but still drawn toward each other, aware that words can wound and distance can grow. Rather than pulling away, the song insists on moving closer: escaping the chaos, seeking quiet, and holding onto one another as days blur by with no clear resolution. In a world that keeps pushing people apart, Closer treats togetherness not as comfort, but as a deliberate, radical act.

It’s this very tension between fragility and intent that makes “Closer” so compelling. There is warmth, care and a quiet insistence that togetherness is not passive. In a time when music often reflects the chaos around us, this song insists that intimacy is its own kind of courage.
